Last October, ANA Airlines announced a partnership with co-living space provider ADDress. For 40,000 yen a month, ADDress members have unlimited access to a network of renovated homes all across Japan. Now for an extra 30,000 yen, the ANA ADDress package includes two round-trip airplane tickets per month.

ANA is offering domestic flights connecting Tokyo’s Haneda Airport to Shin Chitose (Sapporo), Tottori, Takamatsu (Kagawa), Fukuoka, Oita, Kumamoto, Miyazaki, and Kagoshima. Currently, eligible flights are limited to these routes, as well as specific flight times.

What is ADDress?

ADDress currently provides over 30 refurbished properties across Japan, and the number of locations is still growing. Many of these homes are located outside of the urban centers, in communities with declining populations. With this service, ADDress connects people all throughout Japan and provides unique experiences, while helping to revitalize areas that could use more visitors.

ADDress works like this: The owner of a vacant house makes a deal with ADDress to sublease and renovate it. Then ADDress offers the house as a living space for its members. Members pay their monthly fee to be able to live in any of the ADDress properties. ADDress then pays the property owners rent, providing them with a stable income.

Is this ANA ADDress partnership cost-effective for members?

This service is intended for remote workers and those who want to try out a new lifestyle. But is it economical for members? Well, let’s consider an example.

If you are living alone in a one-bedroom apartment in Tokyo now, you’re probably paying at least 50,000 yen a month. You want to get out of the city for a bit and decide to take a trip to Hokkaido. You could fly on a budget airline for more than 17,000 yen round-trip, or take the shinkansen for about 30,000 yen. The cost is already almost 70,000 yen or more and we haven’t calculated the price of accommodation in Hokkaido.

Of course, if you to commute to an office in the city most days, this service wouldn’t really make much sense for you. But if you have the freedom to work from wherever you are, it sounds like a dream doesn’t it?

On January 17, ANA and ADDress began taking applications for this program, which begins January 31. If you are interested, you can apply to be an ADDress member from their homepage here
