Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea are slated to reopen on July 1, 2020, according to a report by NHK.

The Oriental Land Company, which owns Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea in Urayasu, Chiba prefecture, made the reopening announcement on June 23.

Both theme parks have been closed since February 29 as a measure to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus. Upon reopening on July 1, the parks will have been closed for four months -- the longest closure Tokyo Disneyland has experienced in its 37 years of history.

New measures for park visitors

The reopening comes with a string of new policies and precautions that the parks will be taking to help avoid the spread of the Coronavirus. According to a report by Huffpost Japan, ticket counters inside the park will be closed, but customers will be able to purchase tickets online from June 25, 3pm JST.

To avoid crowding within the premises, the number of visitors allowed inside will be limited, and entrees will be separated by timeslots. Temperature checks will be enforced for all visitors entering the park.

Everyone will be required to wear masks while on the premises, and are only allowed to take them off during meals. In addition, Oriental Land stated that they will increase the number of disinfection areas and that some rides will be closed to avoid heavy contact.

Parades and shows of Disney characters will still take place, however, the meet-and-greets with the characters will be done without direct contact to maintain social distancing protocol.

The reopening of Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea coincides with the reopening of other Disneyland parks across the world. Hong Kong Disneyland resumed operations on June 18, meanwhile, the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida will also be seeing a gradual reopening in July.
