If you currently find yourself feeling a little unprepared for the arrival of Halloween this weekend because, like every year previously, you have once again failed to procure a costume, you are not alone. I too, am stuck in this never ending cycle of telling myself ‘next year I’ll take the whole month of October to prepare for the spookiest night of the year’ only to find the 31st creeping up on me at full speed until it’s too late.
Luckily, this year florist store Hana Kobo Aketake is both selling ‘Halloween Mask Making Kits’ for a bit of at home creativity, and holding a ‘Halloween Mask Making Workshop’ on the 29th, which means although it’s only days until the big event, we’ve actually still got some time to relax before we need to get busy.
The kits are made up of flowers that went unsold for either being deformed/discoloured, too old, out of season, or lacking in demand. By using these would-be-discarded flowers, Hana Kobo Aketake has come up with an eco-friendly way to make something valuable out of something that is perceived as ‘waste’ by society.
Included are a variety of dried flowers, plants and paper masks, that can be arranged to your preference at home. Design your own mask at home, and revel in the fact that there is no other mask like it in the world.
As dried flowers last much longer than fresh flowers, these masks can continue to be used as an interior decoration long after Halloween 2021 is over.
Halloween Mask Making Kit – 2,700 yen
Contents:
– A varietal combination of dried flowers/plants delivered in sets of several different shapes and sizes. – A mask of approximately 22cm in length and 17cm in width which can be cut to size according to the wearer.
*The kit does not contain adhesives or a glue gun, which should be purchased separately from a local 100-yen shop or DIY store.
Halloween Mask Making Workshop – 2,200 yen
On the 29th of October Hana Kobo Aketake will be holding an inhouse Halloween Mask Making Workshop between 18:30pm to 19:30pm. After completing a mask, participants can take a special commemorative photo in front of the store’s indoor autumn flower wall.
To get involved in the event, contact Hana Kobo Aketake for further details.
