Wagashi (meaning traditional Japanese sweets) can come in a wide range of shapes, colours, and flavours. This even includes some adorable sweet versions of popular Japanese characters.
‘Tabemasu’ is a sweets brand that specialises in these character-inspired sweets, and they’ve often teamed up with Sanrio to release wagashi based on famous figures such as Hello Kitty.
Starting from August, a new lineup is going to be released based on not just one, but three popular Sanrio characters.
The three characters featured are Cinnamoroll, Pompompurin, and Pochacco, and each one has a different flavour filling. Cinnamoroll is milk, Pompompurin is pudding, and Pochacco has a banana flavour.
Since the sweets are made from nerikiri, a type of wagashi that can be easily moulded and coloured, they are impressively detailed. The theme of the collection is ‘dressing up cutely’, as you can see from the characters’ various bow ties and ribbons.
You don’t even have to go to a fancy wagashi store to get hold of these sweets, as they will be appearing in Lawson convenience stores all over Japan from 2nd August (excluding Natural Lawson and Lawson 100). They can be found in the chilled dessert section and will cost 285 yen each.
