Yes! In the very near future, kids can enjoy coloring books by more than just viewing a plain piece of paper.

A new project from Disney Research enriches Augmented Reality(AR) technology levels to not just making static 2D objects transform in to 3D moving objects, but also having books instantly respond to kids coloring the character during the whole process. Well... the texturing is where the hard part comes in regarding what we have discovered so far from AR technology. Based on each texture line of drawing, theexpression needs to be refigured in a visually 3D character.

Disney Research worked with 314 participants in experimenting different types of text generated method. The result shows that the participants are way more satisfied with Disney’s method than other methods that are been using right now.

Basically, Augmented Reality(AR) blurs the lines of how we view the world, or at least the way we used to see this world. It adds graphics, sounds, return feedback and smell to the world as it exists. The whole interactive experience bonds the real-world activities with digital improvement.

So, How does Augmented Reality(AR) work?

First, a hidden or unhidden code is attached to an item or paper. Then the Image-recognition software from the digital tablets or iPhone can instantly respond to the window. The visual experience can be looking at a 3D object in 360 Degree, shop surfing, or even gaming experience.

The app is still in research during the moment, so don’t go trying to download the app or go to a Disney store to grab a coloring book yet. Of course, there are other apps that have done similar kind of stages, but certainly not at this kind of level of Live-Texturing(Coloring) as we see from above.
