Japanese Photographers Capture Magical Cherry Blossom Scenes in Unexpected Spring Snow
Lovers of coffee-related souvenirs can rejoice, Starbucks’ ‘You Are Here Collection’, which has previously showcased many different countries, is making another appearance for a winter version of the Japan-exclusive range of mugs.
The Japan line-up from last year showed off an all-encompassing picturesque view of the country. Both the mug and espresso cup centred around a snow-capped Mt. Fuji, Japan's highest mountain, and the most recognisable symbol of the country's natural beauty in front of a rising red sun. Up front, as cherry blossoms dance around, Japanese monkeys (macaques) soak in the relaxation of a hot spring. While not visible in release pictures, the back of the mug and cup feature sushi, ramen, castle, a bonsai tree, and even a daruma doll. The idea is that rotating the cup will give foreign visitors a scenic and cultural view of Japan that provides memories of their trip through the country.

But the brand new collection expresses Japan’s comforting wintery scenes, making perfect Christmas presents. Snow cascades down and the cherry blossom has been replaced by seasonally appropriate Camellias. Cranes complete the romantic snowy ensemble, and if you turn the cup around you can also see Japanese greats such as a castle, a daruma, and favourite winter comfort food nabe (hotpot).

Starbucks’ region specific goods have become a favourite souvenir, and this collection can only be found in Japan, from 22nd November to 14th February 2019. The large mug costs 1800 yen and the espresso cup is 1200 yen. This line-up also boasts a stainless-steel tumbler for coffee on the go, which will set you back 4000 yen.
