One of Japan's most popular condiments and rice toppings, Momoya's Gohandesuyo! ごはんですよ! made from nori (laver) seaweed, seasoned with soy sauce and sugar, is sold in nearly every convenience store and supermarket in Japan, not to mention most Japanese food stores and many Asian supermarkets outside of Japan.

And yet, although Gohandesuyo! (which literally means "Dinner's ready!") has been enjoyed in Japanese households as a rice topping since 1972, the umami-filled condiment actually has possibilities not limited to Japanese cuisine.
If you're spending any time in Japan or have access to an Asian or Japanese food store in your area, you can get double mileage on your bottle of Gohandesuyo!
Try it classic style as a delicious rice topping, and then try it one of these quick and easy recipes for something completely new!
Gohandesuyo! Avocado Salad
Avocado and Gohandesuyo! work wonders together, and we have two recipes featuring this tasty combination.
For starters, this simple avocado salad, great as a side dish or served in an avocado shell as a tapas.

How to make
Cut avocado in half, remove pit and peel (carefully, if you are using peel as a serving dish) and cut flesh into bite-sized pieces.

In a bowl, add Gohandesuyo! and wasabi to avocado and mix well

Transfer to a serving dish (or avocado peel) and top with chopped banno-negi green onions

Gohandesuyo! Avocado Toast
Make the salad above, add mayonnaise (as desired), spread on a slice of bread and toast!

Gohandesuyo Toast
Mix a tablespoon of Gohandesuyo! and chopped green onion {can be replaced with thinly sliced conventional onion} with 1/4 cup of the shredded cheese of your choice, spread on a slice of bread and toast!

Ham and Cheese with Gohandesuyo! Sandwiches
Blend a tablespoon of Gohandesuyo!, a teaspoon of mayonnaise and a teaspoon of karashi Japanese mustard {can be substituted with horseradish} and use as a spread on a sandwich with ham, cheese, lettuce and other veggies of your choice (such as thinly sliced cucumbers, watercress, or arugula) for a delicious twist on a classic sandwich.
