In our second round, we bring you YuNi no All Night Nippon i YuNiのオールナイトニッポンi, a show on the web radio platform All Night Nippon i オールナイトニッポンi.
With virtual singer YuNi as host, YuNi no All Night Nippon i is a fun and entertaining radio show, comprising a longer live portion on the Vtuber live streaming platform Colon: and a shorter archive-only segment available exclusively on the All Night Nippon i site. YuNi occasionally invites other Virtual Youtubers to join her.

Episode 6: Special Guest Haneru Inaba

Welcome to another episode of YuNi no All Night Nippon i
Continuing from last week, YuNi was joined once again by Haneru Inaba!

Part 1: Answering a listener's question

A listener who admitted hugging a favorite plush toy to sleep at night asked YuNi and Haneru if they did anything special to get a good night's sleep. Haneru explained that she loves Sanrio's Pompompurin and has many plushies of the lovable Golden Retriever in her bedroom which she likes to hug when she tucks in. Why in turn? Because if she only hugged one, the others would get jealous!

As for YuNi, she occasionally sips on an ume highball (Japanese plum wine, whisky and sparkling water) when she has a hard time sleeping. She suggests it to Haneru only to quickly take it back since Haneru is 19, which is under the legal drinking age of 20 in Japan! So, instead, she recommended ume cough drops or drinking ume kombu tea.

Part 2: YuNi and Haneru make a new "jingle"

To commemorate Haneru's time on her show, YuNi suggests that they create a new jingle together. They come up with three versions, one in which they simply read the name of the show together, one featuring a snippet of conversation between the two and finally, one featuring Haneru by herself. It's no secret that Haneru really likes YuNi and thinks of her as an older sister. Can you guess what she talks about in the third version?

This week's nihongo tip

  • Japanese: お勧めです
  • English transliteration: osusume desu
  • Meaning: I recommend

Listen for the following conversation on today's show:

  • Haneru: 何がお勧めですか? nani ga osusume desu ka? (What do you recommend?)
  • YuNi: 梅ハイボールがお勧めですね。ume haibōru ga osusume desu ne (I recommend Ume Highball)

Try using the question to ask the waiter for a recommendation when you're at a restaurant. You can use the statement when you want to recommend something to a friend, simply replacing "Ume Higball" with the appropriate noun. The final ね (ne) is optional.
