Japan Guide: Visit Otaru during winter
Do you fancy retro items and vintage aesthetics or are you a fan of the Showa Period or old cars?
At the Megaweb History Garage, you can find what you’re looking for. The collection of cars and items from different periods they have is undoubtedly one of the best I’ve seen in Japan (and I have seen quite a few!)
I am all for the retro style and a big fan of older times myself, so whenever I visit it, I feel at peace and very much inspired by the many displays such as old cameras, old items, the beautiful recreation of 1960s Tokyo and, of course, cars from different periods.

The interior is sublime and you feel like you’ve stepped back into the past from the very moment you enter the building.
Furthermore, admission is completely free of charge, which is great when you consider there are two floors waiting for you to explore them.
The first floor has a cozy, retro-inspired café, called Alessandro Nanini, a few cars around, and a souvenir shop where you can buy some car models.
There is also a garage where mechanics can be seen working which makes it even more of a unique experience.

The second floor is my favorite as it has cars from many periods and the Showa Period-inspired cityscapes I mentioned above.
These numerous displays can be enjoyed on the second floor so I recommend bringing your camera with you because this place looks like something out of an old Hollywood movie!
The cars are not just from different periods, but also different countries and it is such a delight to see the multitude of historical items around.
Besides the classic cars, you will be surprised to also find rally cars on display. It was true the first time I visited the museum but and even now, I find it so interesting to see the incredible variety of the exhibits.
