A Cafe with No Staff on an Idyllic Okinawan Island? Sounds Like Paradise
As one of Japan's most popular brand of iced treat, the ubiquitous original Garigarikun popsicles are known for their big blocky shape and classic ramune flavor. In addition to the original, Garigarikun introduces new flavors on a regular basis several times a season. However, for those who want something a bit more special, maker Akagi Nyugro Co., Ltd. also has a Garigarikun Rich series which offer more unconventional combinations. The last one we reviewed was their Tamagoyaki flavor but they've also had such unusual flavors as corn potage and, perhaps most notoriously, Naporitan spaghetti.

Now, their latest Garigarikun flavor sends you on a trip to Okinawa, the star ingredient being salted chinsuko biscuits. For those who don't know, chinsuko are essentially made with flour, sugar and lard, and are similar to shortbread. They come in a variety of flavors, but the most popular is plain with local Okinawan sea salt.
Garigarikun Rich Salted Chinsuko flavor features shaved ice containing pieces of salted chinsuko inside a salted chinsuko-flavored popsicle. True to real salted chinsuko, the cookie pieces contain genuine Okinawan sea salt and lard, and Okinawan sea salt is also used in the popsicle.
Garigarikun Shisa papercraft
According to their press release, Akagi Nyugyo Co., Ltd. understands that many people are unable to travel to Okinawa this year due to the pandemic, so they want to bring Okinawa to you with this product. As an extra element of Okinawan culture, they've also put up a papercraft project of the Garigarikun mascot character as a Shisa lion, which you can download here, print out and make.
