Last month, the bustling district of Shinjuku announced that their Christmas illuminations this year is to have a special theme. Each year’s display around Shinjuku station is a sight to behold, but this time especially is of interest for fans of cute characters.
The theme is based around Sanrio’s adorable creations, Little Twin Stars, also known as Kiki and Lala. Now that we’re fully in the holiday period, we can present photos of the actual Christmas tree and other illuminations.
Little Twin Stars’ signature pastel colours are in full force with an overwhelming baby pink and light blue theme.
The four-metre tall tree which has been installed at the Shinjuku Southern Terrace is constructed with a mirror-ball type material, so that it shines during the day and night. It’s also decorated with moons and stars to give it the dreamy aesthetic that the twin characters are known for.
There’s also neon lights shaped like Kiki and Lala themselves.
As mentioned in the last article, fans of the characters can also get a hold of some Little Twin Stars inspired treats from the Cafe Wagon which will appear every weekend during the event. There’s a Kiki and Lala Chocolate Latte (400 yen) and a ‘Twinkle Crepe’ (600 yen).
If you want to experience walking in a pastel wonderland, the illuminations will be installed at the Shinjuku Southern Terrace until December 25th.
