One of the most awaited winter events in Japan is the Sapporo Snow Festival (札幌雪祭り/Sapporo Yuki Matsuri) in the Hokkaido Prefecture.
The event takes place every year during February, in the northernmost region of the Japanese archipelago.
A paradise for gourmets, full of exciting venues, and astonishing ice sculptures, Sapporo Snow Festival is an event for any generation to enjoy.
You can chill while having a cup of hot chocolate, admire (even touch!) the snow masterpieces, skate, play in the snow, enjoy the illuminations, or have a taste of the delicious local cuisine.
Unfortunately, this year, the event had to be canceled to prevent spreading the Covid-19.
However, you can still enjoy the Sapporo Snow Craft Festival online.
2021 marks the first time in more than 70 years for the event to be held online, and it is available for everybody.
You can also learn how to make ice sculptures, see more information about the festival and its history, also find out who the winners of this year’s competition are at the end of the month.
They will announce the winning sculptures on the 22nd of February on the Sapporo Snow Festival Official Website.
Here, you can find more tips and tutorials on how to create a sculpture directly from the snow masters or test your knowledge about snow sculpture construction.
The online Sapporo Snow Craft Fest 2021 also brings us online live events, craft festivals, workshops, and many limited-items on sale.
Those who purchase over 5,000 yen (tax included) will also receive a Sapporo Style Original Eco bag, designed by monmecci.
There are many handmade items such as earrings, amulets, but you can also find pottery, creams, and even Snow Festival Limited-Edition Beer or Wine glasses.
You can also find out more about the virtual snow events taking place until the 28th of February here.
