Typhoon had approached Japan's main island, which was already causing record rainfall levels in the prefecture. As at 2pm Japan time, large amounts of flood water continues to hit residential areas nearby, and rescue work is being carried out by authorities.
According to NHK Newsweb, because of the high water level, it has been challenging for the rescue crew to approach the site via ground, while there are currently 39 rescue requests from residents.
News agencies have been releasing footage from the scene:
Some news are reporting that up to 6,900 residents are affected by this incident. Residents are being asked to call emergency services if rescue work is required.
