Kyuzo Mifune is one of only 15 Tenth dan holders in the world of Judo. He is also the inventor of a move called the 'airplane' throw (kuki nage or sumi otoshi).

Mifune has a small figure - only 159cm and weighs only 55kg. The word "Ju" of Judo means gentle, soft or flexible; the way Mifune takes down his opponent much larger than him shows why this martial art is named "Judo" (gentle way).

Watch how Mifune uses a variety of moves to "overcome firm strength with softness":

Mifune once said that the basis of Judo is sphere or ball. Indeed, the way Mifune evades the opponent's attack is so artistic - it's like watching him dance.

What also makes Mifune a respectable legend is ever since he entered Kodokan (headed by the founder of Judo, Kano Jigoro), he never took a day off training for 62 years. That's right - not even once.

By doing so, Mifune showed the importance of training everyday. And he continued his training until a year before he passed away.

This important video shows a glimpse of what Judo is really about.
