Fan art is just one of the many different ways fans express their love for their favorite works of fiction, and even though they are all creative and unique, we occasionally come across artwork that is really good.
American artist/cartoonist Bill Mudron is the creator of some excellent works of fan art, and one of his collections is based on Ghibli films by the great Hayao Miyazaki.
His prints are not simply beautiful, they also bring a new perspective to some of the best Ghibli movies. Instead of centering his prints on the characters, he places focus on the architecture and backgrounds of where famous scenes took place.
He is said to have been inspired by Japanese artist Hasui Kawase, one of the most prominent print designers of the Shin-hanga (“new prints”) movement in 20th-century Japan. His works are also reminiscent of Ukiyo-e, a genre of Japanese art that created Under the Wave off Kanagawa by Katsushika Hokusai.
