We all know Gudetama as Sanrio’s pudgy, lazy egg that loves to lie at home all day and do absolutely nothing. But summer’s coming up, which means everyone will be getting ready to hit the beach — even Gudetama.
Since the adorably lethargic egg would end up being cooked if it was dragged to an actual beach, a new Gudetama cafe in Namba Parks Osaka will be giving Sanrio’s beloved protein the chance to become a chill surfer for three short months.
Open for a limited time from May 20th to August 31st is gudetama×CAFE Costa Mesa, Japan’s newest Gudetama cafe themed after the beaches of west coast America. Like all the other themed cafes, visitors will be able to find the adorably lazy Gudetama on everything from the menu.

These original dishes will make you feel like you’re relaxing at a beachside cafe, which is frankly where we dream of being this summer. But nowhere else will you be able to see Gudetama riding the waves, served in front of you as a delicious dish for you to devour.
The menu is scheduled to change after July 15th for a second round of original dishes, so there will be even more themed food to come. There will also be photo spots and original t-shirts being sold at the cafe, so you can take home Gudetama goods you won’t be able to find anywhere else.
This is a Gudetama summer you won't want to miss.
