Japan's rainy season, or tsuyu (梅雨), can be downright oppressive. Muggy and humid weather coupled with heavy rain make it a complete sweat-fest, and for those new to that kind of weather, the idea of going outside and traveling around the country seems totally unpleasant. Those who can brave the elements, however, will find that the famous sites of Japan are every bit as beautiful to see during the rain season, and even have an added quality of charm to them. Photographer Hidenobu Suzuki is one traveler who can attest to that with his gorgeous photo series of Japan during rainy season.

While the weather may have you begging for a shower after travel, the picturesque backdrop rainy season adds to Japan's natural beauty will make your travels worth it. The moody and misty atmosphere makes Japan's famous temples and shrines, as well as amazing forests seem as if they were frozen in time, transporting you back in to the country's storied history. Suzuki has done a fantastic job of capturing this, telling Bored Panda "I wanted my pictures to evoke emotion like Japanese paintings do."
