The internet is basically made for cute animal photos, and one place where you can find some of the feline variety is Twitter page Mikan and Jiro’s House, an account dedicated to recording the daily lives of British short hair cats Jiro, Mikan and Potato.

The cats seem to have particularly expressive faces, lending themselves well to cute and humorous photos.

But some pictures stand out particularly, not because of a playful expression, but because you’ve never seen a cat so sad in your whole life.

Jiro! What happened to you?

The Twitter caption explained that Jiro had been accidentally locked out in the hallway for an hour, and when the owner turned around he was just looking miserably through the door like this.

But there’s more!

Mikan! Not you too!

After three days the owner made the same innocent mistake, but this time Mikan accidentally got locked out too.

The feelings of betrayal are palpable just from looking at these photos. Hopefully the cats found it in their hearts to forgive their owner. Something tells me it only took until next feeding time…
