"Weathering with You"
Makoto Shinkai's "Weathering with You" is turning out to be the hit film of the year in Japan. According to Natalie News, the animated film, about a high school boy (Hodaka) who moves from his home on a remote island to Tokyo and meets a strong-willed girl (Hina) with a mysterious ability to stop the rain and clear the skies, drew nearly 9.14 million people to theaters in the 52 days between its July 19th release and September 8th, and earned nearly 12.1 billion yen. The last time a Japanese film passed the 10 billion yen mark was three years ago with Shinkai's previous film "Your Name."
