Okonomiyaki is sometimes translated as "grill it how you like it", because the savory pancake can be topped with anything outside the standard flour, eggs, and rich okonomiyaki sauce usually slathered on. It's a popular comfort and party food throughout the country (although residents of Osaka and Hiroshima will often bicker about who has the best version) in large part because of being able to customize it to taste.
Now thanks Japanese okonomiyaki chain Dotonbori, fans of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba can get okonomiyaki inspired by their favorite characters from the hit anime, as well as some bonus merch to boot.
Here are the six Demon Slayer character-inspired okonomiyaki being released in July at Dotonbori stores throughout Japan. (Translation and ingredients below the image):
Tanjiro Kamado's Teriyaki Chicken Style Green Onion Okonomiyaki
A traditional style okonomiyaki loaded with green onion, teriyaki chicken, and yuzu pepper.
Nezuko Kamado's Blood Burst Mentaiko Okonomiyaki
A slightly spicy okonomiyaki featuring spicy cod roe and special Blood Burst sauce. (Non-spicy available)
Zenitsu Agatsuma's Thunderclap and Flash Akashiyaki Style Okonomiyaki
Akashiyaki are dumplings made from egg-rich batter and octopus and usually dipped into dashi. This okonomiyaki is fluffier than others and comes served with dashi.
Inosuke Hashibira's Boar Rush Stamina Okonomiyaki
Anything with "stamina" on a Japanese menu typically is loaded with garlic, so this spicy okonomiyaki is stuffed with pork and garlic.
Giyū Tomioka's Dead Calm Seafood Okonomiyaki
A seafood mix okonomiyaki topped with a special "Dead Calm" mayonnaise.
Shinobu Kochō's Butterfly Dance Pancake
A fluffy dessert pancake loaded with cream cheese.
With each order of a Demon Slayer okonomiyaki (each is 1,200 yen), you'll be gifted a random clear file of a character (not necessarily the one of the okonomiyaki you ordered).
Dotonbori will also sell merchandise--Demon Slayer character badges from July 1st, and acrylic stands starting July 20th.
The Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba and Dotonbori Okonomiyaki collaboration event will run from July 1st to August 31st.
