Choya is one of the most recognized names in umeshu 梅酒, or Japanese plum liqueur. It isn't uncommon to find Choya products on the shelves of liquor stores and specialty shops outside of Japan. Their main line is very affordable and easy to obtain but they also have more high-end products that have won international awards. For example, "The Choya Aged 3 Years" won the gold prize in the International Spirits Challenge in 2016 and 2018, and the platinum prize in the London Liquor Challenge in 2018.
Arguably the pinnacle of Choya's craft when it comes to international recognition is Choya's "From the Barrel" series. Having begun test sales in 2016 in duty-free and select international markets, it won the gold prize in the International Spirits Challenge in 2017.

First fermented in Choya's traditional steel vats for three years, then for an additional four years in French barrels made of Limousin oak which have traditionally been used to make cognac, their latest "Choya From the Barrel 2012" has been selling well in duty-free shops, and is a popular item served at The Choya Ginza Bar. However, due to its popularity, it is now difficult to obtain, especially in Japan.

Therefore, those who are looking for a bottle of their own will be pleased to learn that Choya is selling a limited lot of 1,000 bottles from August 11th, 2020, for domestic delivery.
Rich and complex flavors, with notes of almond from the pit and flesh of the ume fruit, and a smoky and luxurious bouquet from the cask, "Choya From the Barrel 2012" is a special umeshu which stands out from the rest.
