After spending nine years in the idol groups AKB48 and SKE48, Sumire Sato, whose first name means "violet," began working freelance as a creator, engaging in fashion projects and producing violet-colored cafe menus and sweets. As luck would have it, shades of purple (lavender, lilac, violet) are trending in 2020, so it's Sumire's year.
That may explain why The Strings Hotel Yagoto Nagoya reached out to Ms. Sato for a special collaboration this fall, an upgrade on their popular Princess Afternoon Tea set which they call the "Marie Antoinette Sumire Sweets Collection"

Sato Sumire designed and selected the ingredients, supervised the creation, and attended multiple meetings with the hotel before settling on the final version which met the head patissier's approval. The set contains the motif of violets which, along with roses, were said to be Marie Antoinette's favorite flower. This is reflected in such items as a violet-colored mini-parfait made with butterfly pea sorbet or a panna cotta topped with violet liqueur jelly. Moreover, reflecting Marie Antoinette's enthusiasm for fashion, the set has decorative elements such as tiaras, high-heeled shoes, and ribbons. It's an afternoon tea set sure to please girls of all ages.
