Maybe summer didn’t quite go as planned for many of us in Japan, but there’s one thing that never lets us down. Sweets.
Seasonal sweets are a staple in Japan, using ingredients that are at their best, and getting inspiration from the recognisable signs of the season. This autumn-only afternoon tea party is a dessert paradise for those with a sweet tooth, and has a literary twist to make the aesthetic even more impressive.
Inspired by a high class English afternoon tea, the ‘Alice’s Autumn Party’ course (from 3360 yen) includes a tiered stand filled with both savoury and sweet nibbles and all you can drink tea, coffee and soft drinks.
But to hold your very own Alice themed tea party at home, there’s several elaborate take out boxes on the fall menu to celebrate the changing season in fantastical style.
The ‘Light’ (2200 yen) option consists of an adorable box of wonders, including motifs like the March Hare, playing cards and the Queen of Hearts. An afternoon tea wouldn’t be complete without scones and this set includes pumpkin or plain ones with gianduja or pear jam as a condiment.
Upgrade to the ‘Standard’ set (3200 yen) for an added apple and caramel parfait inspired by the Queen of Hearts.
Or go all out for premium (5000 yen) and get a beautiful ‘Mini Garden Cake’ themed around Alice’s private garden.
The elaborate eat-in tea party (reservation only) and the gorgeous take away sets are available at three restaurants in Tokyo and the surrounding area from 2nd September to 31st October.
