Dashi could be considered the life blood of Japanese cooking. The essential cooking stock is a base for everything from noodle dishes to even okonomiyaki. We're starting to see it outside the kitchen recently, with it being sold in vending machines and even with the opening of a "drip dashi" cafe.
Coca-Cola Japan and Kikkoman are teaming up to deliver it in an all new way now--as a readily drinkable beverage served up in a can.
The "Go: Good Mmm! Delicious Japanese Dashi" is basically what its name says it is, a canned serving of dashi. Japanese food manufacturer Kikkoman oversaw the recipe, which uses carefully selected bonito, kelp, and flying fish extract to deliver what Coca-Cola Japan says is a fulfilling umami-packed beverage that people can enjoy on the go as opposed to in a finishing meal.
The new dashi drink, which can be enjoyed at hot or room temperature, will be released alongside a re-release of of its predecessors in the Go: Good line: canned corn potage, shrimp bisque, and minestrone soup drinks. An all new packaging is said to preserve the flavor of the dashi.
"Go: Good Mmm! Delicious Japanese Dashi" will be released throughout Japan at stores and vending machines starting October 12th.
