Luxury Teas Inspired by the Worlds of Studio Ghibli Now Available in Japan
The food featured in Studio Ghibli animations is so iconic that it has spawned countless fan quests to experience these dishes in real life. With the popularity of ‘Ghibli food’ in mind, the animation studio’s official merchandise store in Japan, Donguri Kyowakoku, has released a new collection, perfect for food-obsessed fans.
This lineup of mini glass plates features eating scenes from various classic movies and portrays the beloved characters chowing down. With eighteen plates to choose from, your favourite film is very likely to be represented!
Classics such as Laputa Castle in the Sky, My Neighbour Totoro and Kiki’s Delivery Service all have one charming plate each.
Porco Rosso, Pom Poko and Whisper of the Heart are included too.
Popular movies have several designs available, such as Spirited Away which has four options, including Haku’s shio musubi.
Princess Mononoke has two designs, with San’s dried meat and Jiko-Bo’s rice gruel.
Of course, some of the most memorable food scenes include the eggs and bacon from Howl’s Moving Castle and the ham ramen from Ponyo. Fish cookies from The Cat Returns appear as well.
Newer animations like From Up on Poppy Hill and The Secret World of Arrietty aren't forgotten about.
There’s also a special addition in the form of a plate inspired by Panda! Go Panda, a film created by Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki in 1972 before the formation of Studio Ghibli.
These plates can be found in branches of Donguri Kyowakoku around Japan (store list here), or on their online shop, costing 770 yen each.
