Japanese diner orders a salad but gets more than he bargained for

"Someone please tell Komeda's Coffee what the word 'mini' means."

This is the caption that accompanied a picture posted by Twitter user 係長 kakarichō (@cakari14) on February 7th, 2022.

On this particular day, kakarichō had ordered a "mini salad" at a コメダ珈琲店 Komeda's Coffee, a well-known Japanese restaurant and coffee shop chain.

When you see what the waiter brought him, you'll surely understand why the Tweet went viral, garnering over 143,000 likes and 23,000 retweets at the time of writing...

"It's been a while since I've been to Komeda's, and I ordered a mini salad. Someone please tell Komeda's what the word 'mini' means."

Mini...?

It's hard to describe the size of this salad as "mini"!

Even if you order a regular-sized salad at a typical restaurant, you probably won't get a salad as large as this.

The viral post elicited a variety of comments, such as:

  • "This is like the "mini shaved ice" they sell during the summer. The size isn't mini..."
  • "This 'mini' may mean, "I wonder if mi (me) can eat this amount of salad lol"
  • "If that's a mini, I can't imagine what their regular size looks like!"
  • "When I visited Komeda's Coffee for the first time, I ordered beef stew and a Shiro Noir* together. Somehow, I managed to finish it..."

    For those who haven't visited Komeda's Coffee, they're famous for their food menu with its very generous portions, even by Western standards. In fact, you can count on their "mini" sizes being what normally qualifies as "normal" in other restaurants.

    If you're planning a visit, make sure you go on an empty stomach!
