Iga city, famous for its rich ninja history and lore, is teaming up with famous Japanese dance artist Kento Mori to promote that very ninja culture and tradition passed down through many generations to this day. The “Feel Like Ninja” Project not only aims to increase the awareness of traditional ninja culture, the pride of Iga city, but also to help the tourism and entertainment industries which were both largely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
To announce this project, the Mayor Okamoto and Kento Mori dressed in ninja garments on February 16th, and explained the details about the project unveiling some of the key visuals of the project at a conference held at Iga City Hall.
On “Ninja Day”, February 22nd, there was an amazing live performance event held by the Iga Ninja Group “ASHURA” in front of Ueno Castle, broadcasted to the world. The event consisted of a live solo dance performance of Kento Mori, ninja performance by ASHURA, subsequently followed by Mori and ASHURA portraying some of the scenes from the Project’s music promotional video, too.
There was also a special ninja workshop held as a part of the event at an elementary school in Iga City, giving 4th graders a try at learning about ninja and employing their techniques.
