Today, on August 9th, 2022, news emerged that fashion designer Issey Miyake had passed away on August 5th, 2022. He was 84 years old.
Miyake began designing clothes when he was a university student, and after graduating, went to France to study at an haute couture school. He later moved to the United States.
After returning to Japan, he established the Miyake Design Studio and worked as the main designer for the Issey Miyake brand. The brand has participated in the Paris Collection, for example, and the name ISSEY MIYAKE is known worldwide.
Highly acclaimed both in Japan and abroad, Miyake's passing was received with shock and sadness in his native land.

In 2010, Miyake was awarded Japan's Order of Culture in recognition of his achievements.
In 2016, moreover, he was awarded the title of Commandeur de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government in recognition of his contributions to world culture through clothing design.
Since Miyake led the Japanese fashion world, his passing is likely to continue to have an impact on various fields.
