Fireworks are one of the most popular summer pastimes in Japan, and people gather with those closest to them to spend evenings at one of the many fireworks festivals held throughout the country. But as beautiful as these illuminations of the night sky may be, the picturesque, iridescent sceneries they create aren’t exactly the easiest to capture on camera.
Leave the photographing to Japanese photographer wasabi (@wasabitool), however, and you’ll have an array of pictures that do the gorgeous festivals more than justice. Moved by a breathtaking photo he came across on Twitter only two years ago, wasabi decided to pursue photography and learn to take equally impressive photos on his own.
The self-taught photographer takes pictures of anything that inspires emotion in him, but only began focusing the lens of his SONY α7R2 on fireworks last year. Trickier than he had imagined, his efforts were unsuccessful, but tried again this year with the help of another photographer. The results of this year’s photos are evident in the magnificent, brightly shots he brilliantly managed to capture on film.
