Osaka is well known for Okonomiyaki and Takoyaki, but have you ever heard of Kushikatsu? If you're all about the friend food life then this is the dish for you! Kushikatsu is a fried food fanatics fantasy when it comes to traditional food from Osaka. Youtuber Emily Louise Maitland and her boyfriend Daisuke take you along into the heart of Osaka to experience this culinary sensation.

Kushikatsu is made by deep frying various vegetables, fish and meat skewers that are coated with flour, egg and breadcrumbs in oil until they're a crispy golden colour. They are then dipped into the ever so divine tonkatsu sauce. "Kushi" means skewer and "Katsu" means cutlet in Japanese. Locals have sworn by this dish since it was first served at a restaurant in Osaka's colourful Shinsekai district back in the early 1930's.

As soon as Emily and Daisuke enter the restaurant they waste no time and get straight to ordering. They order a very large variety of Kushikatsu including, shiitake mushroom, beef, salmon, cheese and much more. They both agreed that Kushikatsu goes perfectly with beer on a hot day, so they ordered that, too.

When is comes to eating Kushikatsu there are certain rules that you must follow. The number one rule is no double dipping in the sauce, as the sauce will be used again and again by other customers. If you would like to put more sauce on your Kushikatsu it can be easily done by using the large cut cabbage leaves to scoop the sauce onto your skewer.

After one bite of the Kushikatsu it's clear on both Emily and Daisuke's faces that it was all worth the wait. Don't they just make you feel like trying Kushikatsu right now!

Emily said that her favourite Kushikatsu was the beef or salmon. She also said that she enjoyed the mochi skewer as well. As for Daisuke he agreed with Emily that the beef and salmon were the best. If you eat at a Kushikatsu restaurant and you're still feeling hungry after all of that you can try one the special dessert Kushikatsu which include items such as fruit mochi, ice cream and cheesecake.
