Despite the millions of Sailor Moon fans who have been captivated by the courageous spirits of the Sailor Scouts for decades, it wasn't until January 13, 2017, that they finally made their appearance on the big screen in North America. In fact, the screening was actually a premiere for the imminent release of Sailor Moon R — The Movie, an uncut version of the 1993 original which will soon be shown in over 300 theaters across the United States.
As many fans will remember, Sailor Moon R — The Movie begins as Fiore, Mamoru's childhood friend, reappears into his life to fulfill a promise of giving him flowers. However, Mamoru, Usagi, and the rest of the Sailor Scouts soon find out that the flowers possess evil powers, and that they will have to fight this evil force to save the world.
The special screenings will begin on January 20th for a couple of days to a week, depending on the venue. Fans will be able to enjoy the film in either English dubs or Japanese audio with subtitles, reliving their childhood and cheering on the Sailor Scouts. All guests to the theaters will receive an exclusive Sailor Guardian art board as a complimentary gift. Those sitting in for the dubbed showings will also be able to see exclusive interviews and introductions by the English voiceover cast.
