Akihabara is often lauded as Tokyo's Mecca of tech and otaku subculture, so the district is not exactly a stranger to innovation. The district boasts "firsts" with an all female staffed sushi restaurant, vocational school for otaku, and even a gym where you are personally trained by maids. And while we can't quite verify this, we're going to take the word of a new store that is claiming to be the world's first anime eyeglasses shop.
Opening on July 15th, "Animegane"--a name that combines "anime" and the Japanese word for "glasses"(megane)--will offer eyeglasses with aesthetics inspired by popular Japanese animation. The shop's eyeglasses are modeled after those worn by characters in anime, or simply customized to reflect the style of their respective series. Currently, Animegane is selling eyeglasses inspired by Neon Genesis Evangelion, Sword Art Online, Fate/stay night[Unlimited Blade Works], Sword Art Online Sword Art Online, Boruto, Hatsune Miku, and more.
