Grab your robes and wands because the first ever official Wizarding World of Harry Potter Cafes have appeared, as if by magic, in Japan! To celebrate the release of the new Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie, the cafe will open for a limited time only in two locations, Tokyo and down south in Fukuoka.

We checked out the Tokyo venue in Shinjuku’s Mylord mall to sample all the delights of JK Rowling’s Wizarding World.

Wizarding World of Harry Potter Cafe, Tokyo

There’s two sections to the cafe, including a special area which can only be entered if you reserve online and order the set menu. This room will show exclusive movie footage that has been created just for the cafe.

We took a table at the ‘cafe’ area, so we didn’t need a reservation and were seated before you could say ‘Quidditch’. This was on a weekday so it may be more busy at the weekend, but the cafe does have a strict limit of 45 minutes stay for customers, meaning the line should move fairly fast.

We ordered and paid at the counter on the way in, so that the food could be brought out as swiftly as a Nimbus 2000.

Wizarding World of Harry Potter Menu

The cafe has a whole line-up of Harry Potter inspired beverages, one for each of the Hogwarts Houses, and some fantastic beasts themed drinks too. We went classic and ordered the two rival houses, Slytherin (green tea latte) and Gryffindor (an iced blend tea).

If you order a drink, you will also gain a random coaster, exclusive to the Wizarding World Cafe.

All the meals on the menu contain a hint of sorcery, usually a cute character illustration somewhere on the food.

The most striking dish is the profiteroles, a tower of the sweet pastries is decorated with a cute Dumbledore illustration on a cookie. The staff informed us she was going to cast a spell on the dessert, and asked if we could all say ‘lumos’ together. With the incantation and the wave of a wand (and the pouring of some liquid which may have been more crucial), the plate lit up and mysterious mist drifted out from underneath!

The mist died down a bit, but the plate continued to bubble and hiss at us, probably in admonishment for turning our attention to the other delicious meals.

As a main, we ordered the Harry Potter Cheeseburger Plate. The adorable Harry Potter illustration is on the cheese, but sadly he melted while we were taking a video of the profiteroles. Sorry Harry!

Then the beautifully presented pancakes come with a cloud of candy floss atop it, which magically disappears when you pour the syrup on top! Okay, maybe we all know that candy floss melts in liquid, but it’s important to get into the spirit of things. This cookie had a Newt Scamander design, the protagonist of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

The cafe itself is quite small but decked out with more Wizarding World memorabilia than you can shake a wand at. This Dumbledore’s Army list is actually signed by all the actors who played the rebellious group in the movie.

The Fantastic Beasts backdrop is signed by one of the stars too, Dan Fogler who plays Jacob, the muggle who gets dragged into Newt's adventures.

There’s also shelves upon shelves of merchandise, including plenty of cute Nifflers.

Sadly the cafes are only open for a limited time, from 9th November to 31st January 2019, in Shinjuku’s Mylord, and also down south in Fukuoka Canal City, Hakata.

UPDATE (29th March 2019): Sadly, the Shinjuku location has already closed, but there's a new menu down in Fukuoka which can still be enjoyed!
