At five years old, Akita inu dog Fuji had never been to the beach.

When his owner finally took Fuji to see the sandy paradise for the first time, pictures show him looking pretty at ease, enjoying the new surroundings.

However, his confidence may have stemmed from a misunderstanding of what a beach actually is.

He ambitiously strides further out towards the sea, but as the video shows, he gets a shock when the water finally touches his feet and he nopes out of there sharpish. He gets increasingly panicked since the waves follow him as he tries to back away.

The video was a big hit among Japanese Twitter users, with fans sharing their favourite screenshots, any of which could become an instant classic as a reaction meme.
