Upmarket tea proprietors Lupica have collaborated with animation powerhouse Studio Ghibli before to bring us tins of original loose tea leaf blends, inspired by the beloved movies.
Curling up with a cup of tea and watching a Studio Ghibli film already sounds like the perfect night in, so having tea that smells and tastes like the stories themselves can only elevate the experience.
The tins the tea comes in are also beautifully designed with gorgeous character illustrations which work as decoration for your kitchen as much as practical tea containers. Brand new tins and blends have been announced, one My Neighbour Totoro themed and one Kiki’s Delivery Service themed.
The nature-centric Totoro tea is a mild, caffeine-free blend. Inspired by the corn that Mei brings her mother in the hospital, corn tea has been mixed with rooibos. The packaging design has a cool retro feel.
In a nod to the rose garden where cats Jiji and Lily become close, the Kiki’s Delivery Service tea is a much sweeter concoction. Fragrant vanilla flavoured black tea leaves with hints of blueberry and guava are mingled with rose buds for a romantic cuppa.
The two new products cost 1800 yen each (not included tax) and will go on sale from 13th April in Ghibli merchandise megastore Donguri Republic (in stores and online). They will also be sold in limited numbers on the Lupicia online site from 15th April.
If you’re desperate to get your hands on these fantastical tea leaves, you can preorder online.
