Fan-Made Trailer For My Neighbor Totoro As A Japanese Horror Film
"Summer Wars" 10th anniversary celebrations
On August 1, 2009, Mamoru Hosoda's feature-length animated film "Summer Wars" was released in Japanese movie theaters. The film, about an 11th grade math genius falsely implicated in the hacking of a virtual world who must fight against an evil artificial intelligence threatening to spread chaos, became a huge hit, both at home and abroad. Not only did it win the 2010 Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year and the 2010 Japan Media Arts Festival's Animation Division Grand Prize, it also won the Anaheim International Film Festival's Audience Award for Best Animated Feature and was nominated for the 2009 Golden Leopard award at the Locarno International Film Festival.
As the date of the film's 10th anniversary approaches, fans aren't the only ones celebrating. Although the film has been broadcast on terrestrial television networks before, on July 19th, Nippon TV broadcast the film with no commercial breaks for the first time. All manner of commercial collaborations, exhibits and commemorative events are also planned (see the whole list at the 10th anniversary "Summer Wars" website).
XLARGE x "Summer Wars" Collaboration
Today, pioneering West Coast streetwear brand XLARGE added its name to the list with a collection of apparel created in collaboration with "Summer Wars." The collection features T-shirts with the likeness of Natsuki Fujiawara, King Kazuma and Love Machine, as well as a full-print color dress shirt and a hat displaying the virtual world OZ.
In addition, the collaboration extends to the virtual world with a special limited edition t-shirt design you can download for your avatar in the newly-released VRoid Mobile app, which currently includes a simple version of OZ you can explore, chat with other participants and take selfies in.
