Take a look behind the scenes of women's wrestling in Japan with the Tokyo Women's Pro Wrestling Document Photobook; BACK STAGE PASS vol.1.

Starring Japan’s all-star women’s wrestlers, Yuka Sakazaki, Mina Shirakawa and Suzume, the book includes unique and exclusive photographs of the girls as they go through different stages of the sport.

Published by Tokuma Shoten, the book is brim filled with exclusive snapshots taken by photographer Mori Takahiro. From the preparation of the ring to getting ready in the Make-Up room, from the pre-match tension to the excitement, pain, and tears afterward, the three girls show us a glimpse of what it is really like to be a pro women's wrestler in Japan.

By working with the girls backstage, Mori Takahiro has created a great range of photographs that show the sport in much greater detail than what any professional wrestling media or sports coverage could ever show.

Although Professional Women’s Wrestling has seen a great soar in popularity recently, what really goes on behind the curtain is still relatively unknown. BACK STAGE PASS vol.1 aims to break through the unknown and to show people the true raw beauty, pain and emotion that goes on when the spotlight isn’t on.

Through women's wrestling you can become more aware of the power and strength of women, making it impossible to not become a fan of the sport.

Throughout the book you can take a look at different aspects of the life of pro women's wrestlers. Certain photographs included in the book are the wrestlers working on setting the ring up early hours in the morning, sparring in the dojo, the raw emotion during a match and never seen before costumes of the fighters. The book also includes three individual handwritten messages from the wrestling stars themselves.

Tokyo Women’s Pro Wrestling started in 2012 as a division of the Japanese professional wrestling organization, DDT Pro-Wrestling. In December of the following year, a flagship battle was held and in 2014 the first tournament match of the “Tokyo Princess Cup” went ahead. The shows made it to the Korakuen Hall in 2016. The promotion continues to gain popularity in Japan due to its unique performances and the members who participate. As of March 2020, the current Princess of Princess Championship is Yuka Sakazaki, the tag team champions are Daydream (Miu Watanabe and Rika Tatsumi) and the international champion is Thunder Rosa.
