The Major's new look
Major Motoko Kusanagi almost needs no introduction. The protagonist of internationally famous cyberpunk manga and anime franchise Ghost in the Shell created by Masamune Shirow is a recognizable icon. The field commander of Public Security Section 9 who English voice actor Mary McGlynn once qualified as strong, feminine at times, yet kick-ass, has understandably made legions of fans throughout her multiple iterations in manga, film and TV series.
In her latest reincarnation, "Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045,” which is the franchise's first full installment in 3D computer graphics, character designer Ilya Kuvshinov has given Motoko what he describes in an interview with Otaquest as a "more human" and "less military" look, with a face which blends aspects of Motoko from the first films to Stand Alone Complex, and "a more energetic hairstyle."
Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 Motoko Kusanagi statue
From the looks of it, Megahouse's Motoko Kusanagi statue does justice to this new design. Part of the Megahouse's GALS series, it faithfully reproduces the Major's softer "more human" look, her features and hair, as well as her strong-willed expression, all in a dynamic pose which conveys both power and poise.
