Eating insects is far from a booming trend in Japan, but recently the country has seen an uptick in insect food products, such as ramen with 100 crickets. Earlier this year, that translated into insect food vending machines, and now it seems people have been trying them out.
The vending machines, while rare, have sprung up in Osaka and Tokyo's Nakano Broadway, offering a variety of bugs (Zebra Tarantula, chocolate coated grasshoppers, Rhinoceros Beatles, and Armored Tail Scorpions). They do run rather on the pricey side, even up to 2,600 yen.
