Winter in Japan means illuminations. Lots and lots of beautiful illuminations which turn any old location into an instant romance spot as soon as the sun goes down.

The array of amazing displays that can be seen throughout the country have led some places to up the ante, with various themes and painstaking designs to make their winter wonderland even more magical.

But the ultimate holiday season attraction for fans of the long running Pokemon franchise, is surely Sagamiko Resort’s luminous tribute to the series, which has just opened this month at their ‘Pleasure Forest’ complex in Kanagawa prefecture. Their illumination event makes use of a staggering 6 million bulbs, and a new area of their attraction will be dedicated to Pokemon.

Within the colourful illuminations, wannabe trainers can encounter all kinds of wild Pokemon. Even the Rainbow Chairlift sparkles in the colours of every Eeveelution, and plays nostalgic music from the game as you ascend or descend.

The Ferris wheel has also received a Pokemon makeover with 36 different Pocket Monsters adorning a gondola each.

But the main place to find Pokemon inspired lights is the ‘Pokemon Street’ area.

Pikachu fans are spoilt with a light show, photo spots and a Pikachu Forest area to enjoy.

The illumination event is currently running and will continue until April next year, with a short closure over the New Year period. Be sure to check Sagamiko Resort’s website for up to date information before going!
