Donguri Kyowakoku, an official Studio Ghibli merchandise store in Japan, held a poll in August to determine the the main couples from the animations which fans believe have the deepest bonds. The result of this poll has been utilised to create some charming ‘pair glass’ sets.
Whether they’re full on couples, engaged in a will-they-won’t-they storyline, or just little kids, the glasses feature various iconic male-female character duos from the movies. Each glass also has a recognisable motif from the film in question at the bottom, which ties the two characters together.
There’s Chihiro and Haku from Spirited Away.
Sophie and Howl from Howl’s Moving Castle.
Sheeta and Pazu from Laputa: Castle in the Sky.
Ashitaka and San from Princess Mononoke.
Shizuku and Seiji from Whisper of the Heart.
Ponyo and Sousuke from Ponyo.
But if you’re eying these sets up as a potential present for your beau over the holidays, you’re out of luck. These glasses won’t go on sale until the end of December (middle of January for online) presumably with the Valentine’s Day market in mind. They can be found in branches of Donguri Kyowakoku around Japan (store list here), or on their online shop, costing 2500 yen (plus tax) per set.
