When it comes to themed cafes, Japan never lets anime fans down. There’s a seemingly constant stream of pop-up eateries alongside the permanent anime-themed cafes which can be found in the country’s major cities.
Starting next month, there will be a treat for fans of classic magical girl series Cardcaptor Sakura, as a collaboration cafe featuring the characters and motifs of the anime will be appearing in Tokyo.
The theme of the cafe is ‘Colorful a la Mode’, so the menu includes three ‘doll cakes’ featuring Sakura in different coloured dresses (1650 yen). The pink one is a strawberry cream cake, the blue cake is blue curaçao cream, and yellow is created with mascarpone cream.
The same pink, yellow and blue theme has carried on to the beverages, with a fruit tea soda in each colour (990 yen). These pretty drinks can even be ordered to go.
There’s also a savoury dish in the form of a takoyaki flavoured cream gnocchi starring Kero (1430 yen).
If you’re looking to celebrate, there’s even a ‘Sweets Party Set’ which is served on a tiered afternoon tea stand (3960 yen). It’s big enough to serve two people and is served with a nonalcoholic sparkling beverage. The stand is full of treats like scones, nikuman, dango, sandwiches, macarons and various cakes, among other things.
There’s also plenty of merchandise to be found in the goods shop, exclusive to this event.
As this is just a selection of the menu, the whole lineup of Cardcaptor Sakura dishes can be found on their website. The cafe will be popping up at Tokyo Parade goods&cafe located on 6th floor of Shibuya Parco, from 13th November to 10th January 2021.
