Japanese Twitter user K (@Kazuhiro800) recently stumbled upon a special “cake” at Matsuzakaya, a department store in Japan. He shared photos of it with the caption “this can’t be real,” and many on Twitter seem to feel similarly.
Here’s why…

It wasn’t just any cake. It was a “Chirashi Cake”! A cake of rice modeled after Chirashi Sushi, a traditional sushi dish in Japan that serves “scattered” sushi on top of rice.
It was shaped precisely like a cake, decorated neatly with salmon sashimi in floral-like rolls on top.
According to K, the “cake” looked and tasted great, and was very satisfying!
This left an impression on many people with comments like “I was taken back (when I saw it) at first, but I’d love to try it!”
Perhaps K found the perfect excuse to have cake for the main course.
