If you've made it through the last two years without hearing the words “Kimetsu no Yaiba”, “Demon Slayer” or “Mugen Train”, then I think you owe us all an explanation.
Though season one of the anime first aired on Netflix back in April of 2019, it wasn’t really until the end of the year that the series started to gain traction. With the final episode leaving viewers on a cliffhanger, the announcement of an upcoming movie was all it took for an explosion of Kimetsu no Yaiba merchandise, collaborations and advertisements that still have a pretty tight grasp in Japan to this very date. So great is the reach of the franchise’s marketing, that fans and critics alike have dubbed it as Kime-hara – a witty mix of the words “Kimetsu” (from the title) and “Harassment”.
Whilst it may be true that some forms of this marketing may have gone a little overboard (such as with the overuse of the traditional patterns worn by the characters popping up all over the place), other pieces – like the merchandise up for grabs – have been truly awe-inspiring, and certainly deserve all the attention they can get.
One such piece that has caught our eye is this extraordinary ¼ scale figurine of the flame hashira Rengoku Kyōjurō in mid-battle.
Beautifully crafted, this ¼ scale figurine reproduces a stance the character takes on before executing his iconic attack “Ninth Form: Rengoku” during a fight scene in the movie Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train.
The statue is so detailed that it faithfully reproduces even the wounds of Rengoku Kyōjurō’s head and the dirt on his clothes.
There are two different versions of the figurine up for grabs, with the most basic being a 420mm tall statue of the character in pose. For an additional price, the statue can be upgraded to include a ring of flames ‘billowing’ around the character – this addition increases the statue’s height to a whopping 720mm.
Pre-orders for both statues can be made on the AmiAmi product page, with shipping expected to commence in December of 2022.
