Something that stands out about a lot of Studio Ghibli movies is the references to nature and beautifully animated scenes in forests. In particular, the animations My Neighbor Totoro and Princess Mononoke have plenty of these gorgeous forest scenes, and plenty of mysterious creatures and spirits that inhabit them.
If you also like exploring the outdoors like many of the Ghibli characters, this latest collection from GBL would be perfect for you. This brand specialises in casual fashion inspired by Studio Ghibli films.
The ‘Go Forest’ collection is made up of outdoor wear and it features the Kodama from Princess Mononoke and the Susuwatari (or soot sprites) from My Neighbor Totoro. Each film has one anorak (15,400 yen) and one bucket hat (6380 yen) that come in several sizes.
Like the soot sprites, the My Neighbor Totoro coat and hat are black. They feature along one sleeve of the anorak and there’s another single sprite on the back, while the hat has ‘Susuwatari’ written on the front with another sprite for good measure.
In Princess Mononoke, the Kodama are a sign that the forest is healthy, so they seem like a fitting motif for outdoor wear. They decorate the sleeve and the back of the anorak and the ‘Kodama’ design on the front of the hat. Both pieces are dark green.
The lineup can be found at GBL Miyashita Park, the GBL corner of Donguri Kyowakoku in Shinsaibashi, and Donguri Kyowakoku’s online store from 2nd January 2022.
