Gen and Saya are professional illustrators who do various art projects and share them on their YouTube channel and social media accounts. Very popular, their YouTube channel 『なつめさんち』 (natsume sanchi "Natsume's place") has 820,000 subscribers and when you include Twitter, they have over 1.6 million followers.
Pro illustrators draw until their pens run out of ink
The two of them started a project where they continue drawing until they run out of ink.
It's not uncommon for people to find themselves without ink in their pens, but few people have ever tried to draw with a ballpoint pen from the time it was brand new until the ink ran out.
How many hours did it take them to use up all the ink, and how many illustrations were they able to complete? Watch the video to see their results:
Gen finished in four and a half hours. Saya, on the other hand, took about six and a half hours to use up all the ink.
Their lively banter as they draw (which you can catch the gist of with automatic translation even if you don't speak Japanese) makes it entertaining, so the 16-minute video is easy to watch!
Drawing with correction tape!
Their next challenge was to draw a picture using only correction tape.
They covered black backing paper with correction tape. Then, by scraping and drawing little by little, the picture was completed...
While Gen completed his work using the unique features of the correction tape, Saya scraped off the correction tape to create a woodblock print-like finish.
It's already quite amazing that they can create art with correction tape, but it's even more amazing that they've thought through the setting of the work as well.
What they used for coloring...
In this last video, the penwork they use to draw the lines is the same as usual, but the coloring process is different.
They added color with cosmetics they bought at a thrift shop. Take a look at the result...
Gen leveraged the characteristics of the cosmetics to blend the colors in his work.
When painting the work again, Saya also mixed colors to create a different look from the girl they painted with cosmetics.
