Customer service is often lauded as exceptional in Japan, with staff often going what's considered the extra mile for customers, and Nintendo frequently being the target of the phrase "divine customer support."

What may be the new standard is the extent one hotel went to in order to show hospitality to an inanimate object. While not seen everywhere, it is quite common in Japan for hotels that offer breakfast service to provide a complimentary package of crispy nori seaweed at one's table--it can be then placed on rice, in miso soup, or simply eaten straight up depending on preference. Twitter user @odayakanano noticed an extra slice prepared for their unusual dining partner when they recently visited a hotel, however.

"When I set down my (stuffed) hamster, they served it nori just for hamsters. Is this a VIP hotel??"

@odayakanano, who carries a stuffed hamster to place at their table for foodie photo ops, set the hamster on their table and was promptly greeted with a small plate with complimentary nori as well as utensils placed right in front of it! While clearly some good natured fun by the hotel staff, many on Twitter were charmed by the gesture, replying with comments like "this is fantastic service" and "the world is at peace today."

Even stuffed hamsters gotta eat!
