Momoko Sakura's best-selling manga ちびまる子ちゃん Chibi Maruko-chan was adapted into a television anime series in 1990 and has continued ever since, earning its place among one of Japan's longest-running anime series. Depicting the simple, everyday life of Momoko Sakura (aka Maruko-chan) and her family in mid-1970s Japan, the series has been a hit both within and outside Japan and has been broadcast or distributed online in over 50 markets worldwide.

Momoko Sakura passed away in 2018, but the manga and anime series continues to be loved by a wide range of generations.

Fans of Chibi Maruko-chan are surely excited about the recent announcement that two of the series' most famous and well-known feature films are being released on Blu-ray!

The two classic "Chibi Maruko-chan" films coming to Blu-ray!

The 1990 film 『劇場用映画ちびまる子ちゃん 大野君と杉山君』 (Chibi Maruko Chan Movie: Ono & Sugiyama) and the 1992 film 『ちびまる子ちゃん わたしの好きな歌』 (Chibi Maruko-chan: My Favorite Song) will be released on Blu-ray on December 21st, 2022.

This commemorates the 30th anniversary of the theatrical release of Chibi Maruko-chan: My Favorite Song. Although both films have been released on VHS and LaserDisc, they were never released on Blu-ray or DVD. For fans, this release is long overdue.

Chibi Maruko Chan Movie: Ono & Sugiyama

A story filled with laughter and tears centering on the friendship between Maruko's classmates, Ohno-kun and Sugiyama-kun, this is the first Chibi Maruko-chan feature film with original art by Momoko Sakura.

Chibi Maruko-chan: My Favorite Song

This is a heartwarming story centering on the interaction between Maruko and her older sister who paints. As the title suggests, singing is the main theme. The film features plenty of singing and dancing to a variety of songs.
