When it comes to iconic pieces of Japanese art, no one could leave out ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa’ (also known as ‘The Great Wave’), one of Hokusai’s Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. This prominent woodblock print is a representative work of the Ukiyo-e era, and it has been recreated and reimagined countless times throughout history.
Now Lego is releasing a brand new take on the piece, which allows normies like us to get a taste of what it’s like to create a masterpiece with our own hands. This lego set, made with adult builders in mind, gives you everything you need to assemble a 3D version of the image, with protruding blocks to mimic the sense of depth that Hokusai created with his bold lines.
According to Lego’s Play Well 2022 Report, 93% of adults experience stress on a regular basis, and 80% want to discover new ways to relax.
The Great Wave set contains 1810 pieces to put together at your own pace, which will hopefully provide a relaxing experience for some stressed adults. It even comes with a premium booklet filled with detailed information, and there’s a specially made soundtrack to listen to while making the artwork.
The fully made model is 39.9cm high and 52.7cm long, and could make an attractive decoration for any interior.
The set will go on sale from 1st February 2023, and will be available at various outlets such as Lego brand stores, Lego’s online shop, Rakuten and Amazon.
