As if the Japanese workplace wasn’t stressful enough, katana clashes and cannon fire have now been added to the mix.
At least, that’s what things have been feeling like recently according to this 2013 commercial for Nissin Cup Noodle. In recent years, Japan has been stressing English-only instruction for ESL classes and English practices in companies. With the approach of the 2020 Summer Olympics and a revival of such policies, now is a good time to look back on this wacky, but on-the-money commercial.
The commercial, “Globalization”, starts off with the CEO of Nissin announcing that the company will now only speak English! What happens after may look like the final battle in The Last Samurai, but it simulates the war that English learning can be in Japan! Enjoy:
